Hair is that one part of our body that is so important and popular that it has been given a million names, including mane, tresses, locks, and whatnot. Be it a fantasy or history book, hair is often used to describe a person’s looks, so important a role they play in defining their looks.

The way your hair is naturally decided by your genes, like many other things in your body. But we often like to alter the style of our hair to amp up our look, be it for a special event or simply because we’ve been bored of it being the same way for years. So here is a to-do guide on how to straighten hair naturally, without any fancy equipments.

1) Comb it when wet

Now I know your ma or grandma or aunt or someone definitely told you NOT to do this, but it actually helps in keeping the frizz out of your hair and straighten it out. Now, not going to say that they are wrong, but there is a way to straighten your hair through combing and yet not damage it.

So how do you achieve that?

Well, all you have to do is split your hair into two portions and then brush it with a wide-toothed comb. I know, screams horror, but it’s not as bad as it sounds. All you need to do is while washing your hair, also condition them and towel-dry them. Pat gently and do not wring your hair. Now use a wide-toothed comb and comb through small sections of your hair gently. If encountered by a tangle or rough knot, do not bulldoze through it. Use your finger. Gently untangle and smooth your hair out and then proceed.

Repeat this process every five minutes as they air dry. You can also do them under a fan but then keep combing continuously or with smaller intervals.

Now, this makes sense, even when blow-drying hair, we are basically combing the hair while letting them, so this is the same but with no heat and natural drying.

2) Part and Pin

A Latin American technique called ‘La toca’ is a natural way to straighten hair at home used by women to achieve shiny straight hair naturally overnight. Wash your hair and let it dry a bit. Then take sections of your hair, wrap it around your head, pin it up, and let it sit overnight. Wake up in the morning with sleek, shiny, straight hair.

3) Milk for straight hair

Milk has high biological value proteins, calcium and much more. It, when used on hair, can give optimum results. Take a cup of milk and use your fingers to apply it to the strands of your hair, or you can put in a spray bottle and spray it in small sections of your hair and then leave it for a few minutes. After 15-20 minutes, wash it well with water.

4) Hair bands to tame that mane

Hair bands are another excellent way to control how your hair looks. When you pull back all of your hair, it will tame the frizz and make your mane look sleeker and straightened.

Pull back properly washed hair in a low ponytail and secure it with an elastic band. Then use more bands and put them in at every 2-3 inches and make sure not to tighten the bands to avoid creating kinks in your hair. Leave it overnight and remove them in the morning.

5) Rollers for straight hair?

Use large rollers and secure your wet hair tightly with them. Leave it on until adequately dried and then remove it. Easy peasy!

6) Some holy grail masks

  • Rice flour, fuller’s Earth and egg white

This is a recipe for a hair mask. It’s simple to make, and it will leave your hair soft, straight and also make them voluminous. Use it once a week.

Take an egg and add it to one cup of fuller’s earth and a quarter cup of rice. (The quantity of the ingredients may vary based on the length of your hair. Just keep in mind the proportion.) Apply the mask, comb your hair gently using a wide-toothed comb, leave it on for 20-30 minutes, and then rinse it off. Use a mild shampoo if needed.

  • Banana and honey mask

Now the results with this one might not be instantaneous, but it has excellent long-term benefits. The banana smoothens and enriches the texture of your hair and honey’s antibacterial properties protect your hair.

Take a ripe banana, mash it thoroughly, and add a tablespoon or two of honey to it and create a smooth and even paste. Apply it to your hair and leave it on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Use this mask twice a week.

Now, you can even try to combine two techniques, like using a mask and then pin and part or combing them till dry.

However you try to do and whatever you find to work the best for you, we hope you have a great time styling and caring for your hair!!
